Launching My Inaugural Op-Ed Article

I am aware that op-ed writers are a dime a dozen. Perhaps I should say they are closer to a quarter a dozen. Give two-cents for every op-ed writer's opinion and you'd give a quarter --save a penny-- for every dozen. I figure my opinion is worth the same two cents of the quarter-a-dozen variety.

I've been interested to read the responses Rick received when he posted an evaluation to Kelly Bogg's recent op-ed piece in the Baptist Press. I said to myself, "Flick, you put your britches on one leg at a time just like Boggs. You put your shoes on one foot at a time just like Boggs. Heck, you even put your undies on one leg at a time just like Boggs. What's there to prevent you from being a regular op-ed writer just like Boggs?"

After thinking it over awhile, I responded to myself saying, "Gee, I can't think of a thing that would prevent me from being one. I never run short of opinions and I hardly ever fail to express an opinion when it comes to mind."

Self replied by asking, "We'll, when are you going to begin?

"Forthwith,” said I.

So, today I launch my personal, syndicated only on BaptistLife.Com, opinion article. Although there isn't much opinion being expressed in this particular article, it is a beginning. I thought I emulate Kelly Boggs and post a mug shot of myself with each article. So I had my daughter take 20 digital photographs of my bearded mug. From the twenty, I didn't find any acceptable photos. So I had to go with the best of the bad, which wasn’t much. I decided to change the photo on the front page of my personal website. It's an enlarged copy of the one that appears in this post.

What will I write about? Perhaps the better question would be, what will I NOT write about? Well, one thing's for certain, I'm not getting too heavy into secular politics. I'm not writing about wars in Iraq. Nor will I write about Hollywood actors who dabble in secular politics. I will, however, write about religious leaders who dabble in denominational and secular politics. I reserve the option to write about Jewish/Palestinian problem. I plan to cover the territory that deals with Baptist life, including denominational politics, theology, Calvinism, and whatever else that comes to mind.

These op-ed articles will reflect my personal opinion, and not necessarily that of the BaptistLife.Com staff. The moderating staff may or may not agree with my views. I’m planning to publish them on Mondays. They will not exceed 700 words, --at least not intentionally. I will share my two cents worth on a weekly basis. Look for the next one to appear next Monday.
